About Nerja

Nerja is located 50km East of Malaga, on the Costa del Sol. Nerja is served by a new motorway, the A7, which now means it's just 45 minutes from Malaga airport. Flights to Malaga from the UK take around two and a half hours. Whilst a car isn't essential in Nerja, it does allow you to explore some of the lovely coves along the coastline, or take a trip to the famous Alhambra palace in Granada.

The Balcon de Europa is the centre of the historic town, built in 1487, giving panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Just off the Balcon, you'll discover the beautiful Salvador church, which was constructed in the 17th Century.

The old quarter possesses lots of typical small Spanish shops offering local produce such as ceramics, olive oil, wine and tropical fruits. Nerja gets lively on a Tuesday, when the market comes to town, where you'll find leather goods, ceramics and lovely fresh fruit.

The Sierra Almijara mountain range serves more than just a stunning backdrop to Nerja, it provides it with an unusually warm microclimate. Even when there is some cloud in the sky in Malaga, only 50 kms away, Nerja is often cloudless through the protection provided by the mountains.

Winters are mild, with the average temperature in December reaching 64 degrees (18 celcius). Summers are hot. On average, temperatures in August reach 88 degrees (31 celcius). The Mediterranean Sea provides an opportunity to cool off though, although sea temperatures reach as much as 84 degrees (27 celcius) in August.
